Family Getaways

Get outside and get moving with family fun galore!

If rivers, bikes and golf are your thing, Shelby County has just the ticket for you and your family. Spend a Saturday boating down the Big Blue River - or the Flat Rock River to the South. Gear up and bring the bikes for a day-long ride through the downtown Shelbyville historic district, or take our motor/bike trails through the country.
Practice your putting skills at one of our three golf courses. Take a cue from the locals and head to Meridian Park Aquatic Center for a refreshing day of fun. Blue River Memorial Park features baseball and softball fun - as well as soccer fields to kick the ball around a bit.

Visit the Grover Museum - one of Shelby County’s Treasures! Young and old alike will enjoy the Streets of Old Shelby. Take the downtown Shelbyville Walking Tour - and visit Linne’s Cafe and Bakery for the best homemade pastries, pies and sandwiches you’ll find anywhere. The Cow Palace can also please your sweet-tooth - with ice cream in more flavors than you can imagine!

How about some bowling? Blue River Lanes can accommodate all ages and levels - and for nighttime fun - hit the lanes for Cosmic Bowling!

The Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Department features movies in the park - bring your picnic baskets and blankets - and come for an evening under the stars! Speaking of under the stars - Shelby County features on of the few remaining Drive-In theatres in the Midwest - the Skyline Theatre! Double features abound every weekend night - and features play nightly as well.

Horse racing your thing? Indiana Grand Racing & Casino features a family-friendly atmosphere with dining for the younger set - and a family pavilion designed to provide fun for the entire family.

Check out our Events Calendar - there are festivals and attractions happening every week!
